The chicken wings at San Maru are my love language. They’re delicious frickin’ chicken wings. Under a zingy teriyaki sauce, the bone-in wings have a satisfyingly crunchy batter around tender fried chicken that easily slides off the bones. Every bite has an awesome ardent heat from housemade teriyaki sauce (available regular or spicy). I love the spicy version. Flecked with red pepper and spices, the from-scratch sauce’s sticky sweet and slightly spicy flavor soaks the wings and pools on the plate for convenient dipping and dragging of wings. The spiciness lingers but doesn’t overwhelm, just a nice, enjoyable kick balanced by sweet.
These teriyaki wings taste best at the restaurant alongside San Maru’s other yummy dishes, but they’re solid for takeout, too. There’s three order options: six wings ($9.99), ten wings ($14.99), and 20 wings ($26.99).
San Maru is located in the same plaza at 83 Vietnamese and Billy Barooz. Order online or at the restaurant. For more about the food, read Grace’s full review of family dinner at San Maru and Remington’s review of the restaurant’s Korean takeout.
