The News-Gazette is reporting the news that the City of Champaign was awarded $12M from Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity for the next phase of the project in Downtown Champaign. The City of Champaign Council approved the initial plans for the project in late 2018, and it was awarded $500,000 just last year. It feels like this project has been in the works for some time now, but things seem to be progressing.
