Cynthia Oliver has won a Doris Duke Award

Which is a big deal!

Oliver is a dancer, choreographer, scholar, and Professor and Associate Vice Chancellor for Research in the Humanities, Arts, and Related Fields at the University of Illinois. The Doris Duke Award is incredibly prestigious; awardees are nominated by peers, and then those nominees are reviewed by another group of peers. You can read a lovely write up from our friends at Illinois News Bureau, which shares that Oliver plans, part, to use this support to write her second book “about the involvement of Black artists in avant-garde and postmodern dance and experimental work.”

Oliver was also named a United States Artist Fellow earlier this year

Congratulations to Professor and Associate Vice Chancellor Oliver.
