Smile Politely

You can prowl for owls with your kids this weekend

I’ve seen Owl Prowl events come up over and over again in my social media feeds, and they always seem to fill up super quickly. So what is an owl prowl?

In the case of this weekend’s Urbana Park District’s Owl Prowl for Kids, happening February 23rd from 5 to 7 p.m., it’s an opportunity to learn about owls that are local to our area, and then search for them in Busey Woods. Participants will gather at Anita Purves Nature Center where staff will present information about the owls, then you’ll have the opportunity to hike the trails in Busey Woods and listen and look for owls. Why do this hike in the winter? Apparently winter is the time when most owls can be found in our area. But never fear! There will be hot chocolate at the end of the hike, as well as an opportunity to see some owls up close in the nature center.

There are still some spaces available, so head over to their website to learn more about the event and reserve your spot.
