The University Library Research Spotlight Series kicks off this week

This Wednesday, February 26th, swing by the Room 106 of the Main Library at 3:30 p.m. to hear from Dr. Jim Best. Best is from the Department of Geology, and he will be sharing a presentation titled “Time is Running Out for Sand.” From the event description:

“The talk will illustrate how not all sands are equal in their suitability for various uses, discuss the various sources of sand and summarize on the issues surrounding sand scarcity – from extraction to environmental degradation to crime and social justice. In doing so, we will examine the data and resources needed to examine the issue of sand extraction. In planning ahead, the talk will address what essential elements must be considered to establish a global agenda for sand, and what information and data are required to make this happen.”

And you thought sand was just a cushion for your beach lounging that stays in the crevices of your beach bag for eternity.

The talk is free, and is the first in the Research Spotlight Series. The next will be April 9th featuring Dr. Richard Tempest, Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures.
