Nymphomaniac: Volume 1 comes to The Art

Somewhat adapted from an Art Theater Co-op post:

Nymphomaniac: Volume 1 begins the story of Joe (Charlotte Gainsbourg), a self-diagnosed nymphomaniac who is discovered badly beaten in an alley by an older bachelor, Seligman (Stellan Skarsgård), who takes her into his home. As he tends to her wounds, she recounts the erotic story of her adolescence and young-adulthood (portrayed in flashback by newcomer Stacy Martin). Volume 1 also stars Shia LaBeouf, Christian Slater, Uma Thurman, Sophie Kennedy Clark, Connie Nielsen, and Udo Kier.

A groundbreaking filmmaker for more than two decades, director Lars von Trier’s other films include Melancholia, Antichrist, Dogville, Dancer in the Dark, and Breaking the Waves. As widely reported, this new film contains graphic depictions of sexuality—to a degree unprecedented in a mainstream feature film.

Nymphomaniac: Volume 1 will be the 10:00 p.m. feature at The Art this Thursday, April 17. If you’re interested, that is. Not that anybody’s judging. Really. [That last part isn’t adapted from The Art’s post. I’m just sayin.’]
