The Illinois Humanities Council (IHC) is presenting U.S. Marine Corps veteran Phil Klay, author of Redeployment, a collection of short stories about war and its psychological impact, at The Urbana Free Library on Veterans Day, Tuesday, November 11th at 5:30 p.m., for a free book reading and discussion. Klay’s recent book is one of five finalists for the 2014 National Book Award in fiction.

Phil Klay is a graduate of Dartmouth College and a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He served in Iraq’s Anbar Province from January 2007 to February 2008 as a Public Affairs Officer. After being discharged he went to Hunter College in New York City, and received his MFA. “Redeployment” was originally published in Granta and is included in Fire and Forget: Short Stories from the Long War. His writing has appeared in the New York Times, Newsweek, The Daily Beast, Tin House, and The Best American Nonrequired Reading 2012.
