Needing your farmer’s market fix before this season’s opening on May 16th? Well, The Land Connection is hosting another Pop-up Market on May 9th at M2 on Neil Street. The market will run from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. and will feature selections of fresh spring veggies from Sola Gratia Farm, breads from Pekara Bakehouse, and flowers from Old Town Flowers. Additionally, this year, Champaign’s Farmers Market will be sporting new hours this year, 3:30-6:30 p.m. every Tuesday from May until mid-October.

The market operates a Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) doubling program, which matches SNAP purchases up to $20 per week. “In our second season we saw over twice as many families use the program on a regular basis and gave out three times as much money in matching funds,” notes Simeziane. This season the Champaign Farmers’ Market will offer Triple Link Tuesdays, with additional matching funds available on the second Tuesday of each month, allowing SNAP recipients to triple their purchases once per month.
The 2017 market will feature vendors selling locally grown, raised, or produced food and farm products, including fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, honey, flowers, baked goods, desserts, and more. The Market also offers opportunities to taste different seasonal products and enjoy cooking demonstrations in conjunction with local chefs.
This season, The Land Connection is also launching a new monthly children’s program: Market Seedlings. On the last Tuesday of each month, Market Seedlings will feature special cooking demonstrations with fun and easy recipe ideas for families, special taste tests, and an art project for the kids.
The Champaign Farmers’ Market is a producer-only market, and in line with the mission of The Land Connection, a Champaign-based nonprofit dedicated to training farmers and preserving farmland, everything to be sold at the market will be grown, raised or produced locally.
