This Wednesday, March 13th, will be the very first YES! Civics Youth Engagement Summit, designed to encourage high school students to become engaged in the local political process. As municipal elections approach, what a great way to start the conversation early about how important our local elections are, even though they don't garner the most attention.

Students from Eisenhower High School (Decatur), Southeast High School (Springfield), and Hoopeston Area High School will be participating, and they will be involved in a number of activities throughout the day long summit. They will create candidate questionnaires for their local candidates, the answers to which will be posted on the Illinois Newsroom website leading up to the election, and they will have the opportunity to learn about the electoral process through interactions with area city council and school board members, as well as those in local media.
