Urbana-Champaign Books to Prisoners is a local non-profit organization that does exactly what its name says. They send books by mail to inmates in Illinois as well as operating lending libraries in our local county jails. Their Books 2 Prisoners book sales are fundraisers that allow them to keep doing their great work. The fall sale is set for October 21 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Independent Media Center. Children’s books – 25 cents – $1To date since 2004, we have sent 129,489 books in 38,454 packages to 19,141 inmates – and counting!
