The Fromps, an emo indie act from the Chicago burbs, stop at Cowboy Monkey on Thursday to play with local eclectics The Inn Keepers, who are halfway through their own tour. Those two plus Jarring all put out new music in 2016 for you to enjoy.

Carbondale’s Porch Fire return to C-U on Friday to provide us with some more of their signature “jam grass” sound, with an assist by the easy-going dudes of Pete’s Sake.

This show marks the first for Library House in several months, and it’ll feature singer-songwriters with electronic and psychedelic leanings. Advance Base, formerly known as Casiotone for the Painfully Alone, will bring keyboard pop, and all artists in attendance will contribute to a lo-fi theme.

The first Conscious House show of 2017 will donate all proceeds to UC Books for Prisoners. The featured performers are Luke Bergkoetter on vibraphone, pianist and vocalist Olivia Dimangondayao, and pop singer/songwriter Mark Laughlin.

The Ensemble Concert Series at C4A brings you a night of electronic improvisation featuring Shu-Cheng Wu and Barry Morse, multi-instrumentalists that intend to provide music that is “avant-garde as much as possible.” The addition of Jason Finkleman will make them a trio for an evening.

WHAT: Tongues Unknown / Phantom Broadcast with the 92s and Sleeping Okami

WHERE: Canopy Club ($8)

Tongues Unknown is the psych rock project of U of I alum Connor Grant, and he released a brand new album under the moniker just last week. Phantom Broadcast are C-U natives with an eclectic sound who are using this gig as their “soft” album release show. That and more awaits as Canopy gets things moving for 2017.
