If you’re interested in taking a step over to Bloomington-Normal this week for a good show, check out JJ Grey & Mofro. They are a blues outfit that hail from Jacksonville, Florida, and tour the midwest pretty often — but not around Central Illinois too often.

WHAT: Dan Durley, The Bashful Youngens, The Speedbumps

WHERE: The Canopy Club ($8)

WHEN: Thursday, February 1st at 8 p.m.

Dan Durley is a C-U ex-pat — you might remember him from his band the 92s, which spent some time here. Their record Television Fuzz was one of our favorites the year it came out. He’s doing his solo thing here with a very good local act, The Bashful Youngens, and the Speedbumps as an opener. Durley has been involved in a variety of projects since he left town a few years ago, but this should be a fun one to catch on Thursday.

Metal and country unite — check out this show happening at the Loose Cobra in Tolono on Saturday night. Dibiase is out of St. Louis, and are no strangers to C-U — they’ve performed a few times, including Oktstonerfest at the Cobra a little while back. They rip. This is a donation-based show, but throw a few bucks in the jar while you’re at it.
